After Paris, New York, Miami and Bruxelles the Super Art Modern Museum (SPAMM by its French acronym) expands its borders and leaves digital sphere to occupy the Caracas’s Museum of Contemporary Art from 23th to 28th July 2013. A selection of more than 50 artists of the digital art scene will be exhibit at the museum’s media room curated by the Venezuelan Helena Acosta and Miyö Van Stenis with the french creator of SPAMM Systaime a.k.a Michaël Borras.

What is S.P.A.M.M?

Created in 2011 by the french artists Michaël Borras A.K.A Systaime, S.P.A.M.M emerges as a viewing and collection platform of global artistic linked to new technologies such as the new media art, video art, net. art, game art.

In an era where immediacy rules, visual arts migrate the virtual field a space that unites us and where we live globally. The new digital artists generate new concepts and relationships that challenge the art world with intangible proposals made by programming and codes, reaching a techno-social sphere where the format allows the work to be consumed in an open, public and infinite in the Internet domains.

SPAMM founder claim that the « contemporary art » exists only as a continuous period of « modern art » of the nineteenth century, they certainly claim the existence of a Super Modern Art born just 10 years ago and whose platform is Internet and technology their tools.

By creating the Super Modern Art Museum (SPAMM), Borras wants to offset the indifference of cultural authorities to the need for society to understand the art and the museum in a different way. At present, the museum is facing new questions about the place of art, questioning the way to see it, display it and buy it. The Super Art Modern Museum is an experiment to answer all those questions.

For this edition in Caracas, the curatorial team leaded by Helena Acosta, Miyö Van Stenis and Systaime have selected more than 50 artists, which include prominent figures both nationally and internationally, who have been pioneers in the field of net. art such as Venezuelan Yucef Merhi and Russian Olia Lialina, also an extensive list of artists who come emerging and positioning in the field of contemporary digital art accompany the selection. The exhibition will take place in the multimedia room of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas, while will be online for the rest of the world.

Helena Acosta

Independent art curator. She studied Art History at the University of Los Andes in Merida, holds an MA in Exhibition Management Project granted for Elisava University, Spain. Her work as a researcher has developed in different countries such as Japan, Spain, Colombia and Venezuela. The lines of her work focuses on the study of photography and new media art in relation to contemporary social processes and dynamics. Recently performed organizer of the I Emerging Art Biennial, The kinetic legacy at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas. Her work as a curator has earned two awards for emerging curated by the Generalitat of Catalonia in Spain and the Institute of Contemporary Art Tokyo Wonder Site in Japan.

Miyö Van Stenis

Artist and curator. Graduated from the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), in Mixed Media. Her work from technological explores the interfaces, operating systems, software and other devices involved in the Internet everyday making them aesthetic materials. The existing interest in representing the relationship of the human and the machine, the machine is moved by expressing itself, as a kind of hyperbolic reflection of this world, first of all as a performative action where its value is in human action in pursuit of error, the unexpected, creating a meeting point between the human, the machine, the error and the undeniable desire of poetic beauty.

Systaime, whose real name is Michaël Borras, is a contemporary French artist of multimedia media and communication networks. Founder of the French Trash Touch (created in 1995 and enacted in 2003) and member of l’internationale échantillonniste. Systaime is one of the most important representatives of Digital Art, especially in the field of Contemporary Net.art. His artistic activities ranging from Vj, Mashup (video), Youtube experimiental and curated art where is noteworthy that the SPAMM founder, better known as the Museum of Super Modern Art.
