FACEBOOK, THE INTERNETz (July 18, 2012) #0000FF Gallery is announcing its grand opening, July 26, with #0000FF Line #1, the first installment of a micro-exhibition thematic series featuring the work of Anthony AntonellisKim AsendorfManuel Fernández & Hugo Scibetta. Each artist will present a single piece inspired by and paying tribute to the 'Blue Aesthetic'.

The necessity for aesthetic interaction between users and online interfaces was evident ever since the appearance of the first social network sites. Our contribution, wheter it is an outcome of an online curatorial process or simply them alterations to satisfy our personal taste, has prove to be a vital factor for the success of any new media. By being a Facebook Art Gallery, #0000FF's goal is to enhance facebook users' visual experience and challenge the network's limitations by addressing aesthetic, social and political issues.

#D is a group exhibition comprised of sculpture and 3D based digital works that address three dimensionality, and in conjunction attempt to challenge the flexibility of medium categorization. Invaliding the necessity to categorize, an action that often impairs further development by isolating relevant styles and artists into high and low brow, the exhibition also reconciles virtual and physical space, celebrating the interchangeable qualities of both approaches.

The exhibition is curated by Giselle Zatonyl and the participating artists are:

Anthony Antonellis
Bhakti Baxter
Ryan Estep
Manuel Fernández
Jessica Gispert
Emilio Gomariz
Rollin Leonard
Sara Ludy
Malgosia Woźnica (V5MT)

Impulse 101 @ Caesura Gallery

impulse101

Impulse 101 is online at Caesura Gallery

http://caesura.cc/gallery/impulse-101/

"Caesura Gallery is a Gogax-based physical network node focused on contemporary art. We host temporary and perpetual work from the past and the future, acting as a simultaneous rear and front guard, and update when necessary. We like both net art and irl art. All material is hosted by invitation and with consent.

As a virtual gallery, one constraint at play for showing work is that the gallerist doesn't know the artist irl, or at least not at first (more here). We're interested in exploring new forms of unreliable narration created by the internet."

A unique internet art exhibition will be held Thursday, April 5, from 3- 5 p.m. in 115 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.

Produced by assistant professor of visual arts studies A. Bill Miller, Speed Show will feature eighteen internationally recognized internet artists who were tasked with creating a Web-based response to the following question: What is "Internet"? Their responses and submissions make up the exhibition.

Each piece will be presented on its own work station within Penn State Altoona’s Visual Arts Studies lab. The lab will become a space filled with participants in two roles: artists working individually within the larger connections of the Internet and exhibition visitors surfing those spaces. Viewers may also visit the exhibition Web site at www.master-list2000.com/speedshowextracredit.html to see details and artist information.

The Speed Show exhibition series was conceived by Berlin artist Aram Bartholl in June 2010

January 20122012 started off with three really amazing exhibitions openings: IRL gifs are currently on exhibit at both Dovble Trovble at the CCA Glasgow, curated by It's Our Playgroundand at Gifpumper at Eyebeam in New York; beholdbehold.com is at SPAMM.fr, which had a nice writeup on HuffPo, the SPAMM IRL vernissage was at La Cantine in Paris. Lastly, Simulation of a Feeling  – featuring art superstar Thalia Raftopoulou – was at Special Ellipse at The Front Gallery in New Orleans which closed earlier this month.

Next up in January catch a screening of Photoshop Skillz and How Nicolas Bourriaud uses Facebook at Vertical Cinema presented be DecemberLabs in Cardiff, Wales, followed by new .gifs in Toronto at Sheroes #6.

Also, this semester I've begun teaching at Bridgewater State University as a visiting lecturer in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Art Department. More to come in February – please consult the social media pedestal to get all the latest links to bookmark + follow!

DOVBLE TROVBLE

DOVBLE TROVBLE

It's Our Playground is happy to invite you to its new curated exhibition:

DOVBLE TROVBLE
7 January - 28 January 2012
Preview: Friday 6th January, 6-8 pm in CCA Glasgow.

and simultaneously on http://itsourplayground.com!

With new works by: Aaron Angell, Anthony Antonellis, Alistair Frost, Tom Godfrey, Rachel de Joode, Aurélien Mole, Mathew Parkin, Ciara Phillips, Owen Piper, Travess Smalley.

We have to admit, we spend a lot of time on the Internet...maybe too much! But such a project couldn't exist if we didn’t spend any time at collecting images, updating our different websites, blogs, and checking new things everyday. And we have a clue that a lot of artists do the same!

DOVBLE TROVBLE is an exhibition existing on two supports. A physical at CCA and a digital on www.itsourplayground.com We will look at works existing in different mediums (eg, sculpture and JPEG, installation and GIF). There will be original artworks in both exhibition spaces.

Is This Thing On?

I have work in the second part: Quality Control, Opening 19 December 2011 @ CAC Cincinnati

Guest curated by Jordan Tate and Aaron Walker, this exhibition presents three distinct subsets of video art practice. Each one addresses specific concerns relative to the history and future of video art ranging from early portapack experiments to more recent explorations of internet culture and sculptural video installations. The first installment, Screen Test (Nov 5), traces the history of performance video, showcasing the changing role of technology and new media trends. The second, Quality Control (Dec 19), looks at process-based works and the role of video art in a broader, new media context. The final phase, New Forms (Feb 11), builds on the previous installations to consider the future of combined media works and challenge popular assumptions of both the form and function of contemporary video art.
